The Pros of Spending Time Alone

If I could share one piece of advice to young girls or girls entering their adolescence, it is to spend time with yourself. It’s essential to learn how to be comfortable in the silence of your own presence. So with that being said, see a movie alone, sit alone at a coffee shop, and just be. Figuring out who you are without the influence of other people’s opinions is so necessary. We spend all of high school determined to fit in and conform to the person the world wants us to be. Then we leave it all behind, and suddenly the opinions of girls and guys you might not even see again aren’t as detrimental as they may have felt. Entering college, there’s the opportunity to find more people outside of the bubble of your hometown, but news flash, the need to make friends and appeal to other people doesn’t really leave. In essence, if your only representation of yourself is the version you are when you’re surrounded by the jury, judge, and trial of the human eye, then you might not really know yourself.
